Stewart Falls Hike

Let's go!

This is a Woolly Bear caterpillar sometimes called a Thermometer Caterpillar. Some folklore about this caterpillar is that the bigger the orange part the milder the coming winter will be. Others say that the bigger the orange part the harsher the winter will be. And still others say that the width of the orange part is showing how mild the previous winter was. We saw a bunch of these along the trail all with fairly large orange parts (it was a moderately mild winter last year with lots of rain); I wonder what the coming winter will be like.

The upper part of Stewart Falls as seen from the trail.
